The Process
Venetian plastering is more than just a wall finish. It is a timeless design choice that turns plain surfaces into something truly special. With natural depth, soft movement, and subtle variation, it adds elegance and character to any room.
How the Process Unfolds
1. Preparing the Walls
The venetian plaster process begins with careful preparation. The surface will be patched, sanded, and primed so that they are smooth and ready for the finishing coats to be applied.
2. Building the Layers
Thin coats of plaster are applied by hand with a stainless-steel trowel. Each layer adds depth, texture, and personality. The final effect can be polished and sleek, or soft and natural, depending on the chosen style.
3. Polishing the Surface
Some finishes shimmer with a subtle satin effect, while others shine like glass. This step brings out the richness and depth that make Venetian plaster so distinctive. Textured surfaces can also be polished to flatten and condense the plaster to make to far more durable.
4. Protecting the Finish
A protective coat of wax or sealer is often added to enhance colour, highlight details, and to provide lasting durability. This makes the finish suitable even for high-moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.
5. A Unique Result
All venetian plaster is different. No two walls will ever look the same, giving each space a finish that feels hand-crafted and entirely unique.
