A Bold, Dark Palette Brings New Life to a South Geelong Heritage Home

Some homes are made for a bold colour choice and this one was a perfect example. The team recently completed a full exterior transformation on this character-filled home in South Geelong and the result is exactly the kind of dramatic, elegant change we love delivering.

The brief

The owners wanted something bolder than a safe, expected exterior palette a deep, rich colour that would give the home a striking, modern edge while still respecting its original character and detail. It’s a balance that takes real judgement to get right: go too dark or too flat, and you can lose the architectural detail that makes a home like this special in the first place. Get it right, and every feature becomes something to notice rather than something the eye skips past.

This is exactly the kind of decision our heritage colour consultation process is built for testing tones directly on the home, in real light, before anything is finalised.

The process

Weather cooperated perfectly for this one, which made all the difference a full exterior repaint depends heavily on stable, dry conditions to get a clean, lasting finish, and we were able to complete the job start to finish without a single weather delay.

As always with a home like this, the real work happens before any colour goes on: proper preparation of the weatherboards/timber cladding, addressing any problem areas, and making sure the surface was genuinely ready for a deep, rich colour to sit well and last.

The result

The finished result speaks for itself  a flawless, elegant finish that highlights every architectural detail rather than flattening it. The depth of the colour gives the home a bold, contemporary presence while the timeless proportions and period features remain exactly what make it special. It’s the kind of transformation that changes how a home reads on the street, without changing what makes it that home.

We’re genuinely thrilled with how this one came together, and it’s a great example of what’s possible when a bold colour choice is paired with the right preparation and process.
